As reported in an exclusive by The Sun, West Ham are already planning their summer acquisitions and have made goalkeeper Joe Hart their top priority.
What’s the story?
Slaven Bilic made two first team signings in the January transfer window but he’s already planning to spend his summer resources and has identified his top target.
According to The Sun, Bilic is willing to spend up to £15m to land Man City’s out of favour and on-loan goalkeeper Joe Hart.
The England international is on loan at Torino but with his deal in Italy up in the summer and Pep Guardiola unlikely to want him to hang around, it leaves the door open for ambitious Premier League clubs like West Ham to make their move.
As quoted by The Sun, a West Ham source said:
We like Hart and would love to bring him to the club. That is now one that will have to wait until the summer window. We had more pressing needs in the January window. The club want to make sure they have enough money in the bank to pay Hart the weekly wages he wants.
With his wage demands thought to be in the region of £100,000 per week, he would become the highest paid player at the London Stadium should he make the move.
Worth it?
Joe Hart finds himself in the media spotlight more than most England internationals, which is saying something. Over the last 18 months he’s made some high profile errors that have had many questioning his ability to be England number 1.
Hart has been one of Torino’s better players this season. He’s put in a number of fine performances this season with displays against Roma, AC Milan, Sassuolo, Empoli and Crotone helping to win points.
A return home would bring a lot of media attention and speculation but if he can get back to making excellent saves again, that would soon die down.
With the future of Adrian and Darren Randolph fairly uncertain given the patchy form of both, perhaps a move to West Ham United would be beneficial to all parties. Joe Hart can prove he still has what it takes and the Hammers get a fine international goalkeeper on their hands that can help take them to the next level.
