Phil Parkinson has been a disaster at Sunderland so far and that has led many fans to call for his dismissal, with the future looking quite bleak currently.
A question has been put to supporters regarding the Black Cats’ chances of promotion under the relatively new boss, and the consensus is that such an achievement is very unlikely to happen.
Sunderland have won just two of his 12 games in charge, one of which came against bottom club Southend, and the fact there has been just 13 goals scored in that time underlines the negative performances.
As such, there isn’t even a sign that things could pick up soon, and the club may need a brilliant transfer window to turn its fortunes around.
The abysmal run of form combined with several players underperforming means the fans are likely correct in their judgement, but there is still an outside chance of success.
Mainly, that is because Parkinson’s side are still only five points off the play-offs with a game in hand, and therefore a little unbeaten run could provide the confidence needed to reinvigorate a promotion challenge.
A lot would need to change for that to occur, however, such as new additions brought in and a system which suits the players at the club, like Will Grigg.
Fans probably believe there is little chance of that happening, and as a result they believe relegation is more likely that promotion.
Sunderland are reportedly targeting a Championship striker to get back on track, find out whether our Football FanCast writers believe he’d be a good addition.
