Arsenal’s season has hit the buffers. Saturday’s loss at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea means that the Gunners are now a massive 12 points behind Antonio Conte’s side.Arsene Wenger is now under serious pressure to keep his job, perhaps finally losing credibility with the majority of the Arsenal support. It should come as no surprise Arsenal didn’t manage to pick up the win against Chelsea, as this stat from Opta shows.
It’s a dismal record against their direct rivals away from home and a win here or there could have transformed their chances of picking up silverware at some point over the last few seasons.
Their brand of possession based, patient football just isn’t getting the job done on the road against the big teams. Do they require a change in tactics? Can Wenger even deliver that?
What’s sure is that there will be a lot of soul searching within the Arsenal squad and support in the days to come.
With their Premier League season in tatters, attention will turn to the UEFA Champions League a week on Tuesday where they face a massive test in the form of Bayern Munich.
That one won’t be easy and if Arsenal exit Europe early then it could be curtains for the legendary Gunners boss.
