According to Sky Sports, Leeds United have lodged a bid in the region of £2m for Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Forshaw.
What’s the story?
Forshaw is surplus to requirements at the Riverside Stadium, and a number of clubs – including Cardiff City – have been credited with an interest.
It is no secret that Leeds want to boost their midfield during this month’s transfer window, and according to Sky Sports, an offer of £2m has been submitted to Boro for Forshaw.
It is understood that Leeds are currently in talks with the midfielder over a move to Elland Road, and the deal could be completed before the end of the week.
Forshaw is believed to favour a move to West Yorkshire over Wales, despite third-placed Cardiff currently sitting above seventh-placed Leeds in the Championship table.
Would Forshaw be a good signing?
The 26-year-old appeared in 34 of Boro’s 38 Premier League matches last season, but could not prevent his club from being relegated back to the second tier.
Forshaw has made 11 Championship appearances this season, although he has not turned out for Boro since their 2-0 win over Ipswich on December 9.
The midfielder was on the bench against Millwall one week later, but has not even made the squad for the club’s last five Championship fixtures.
When considering that Forshaw has a contract with Boro until the end of the 2019-2020 campaign, it is a surprise that a £2m transfer figure is being banded about.
In the current market, that seems extremely low for a player that has Premier League experience, and has also shown that he is more than capable of operating at this level of football.
Leeds need experience as they look to stay within touching distance of the playoffs, and the signing of Forshaw for £2m is a bit of a no-brainer when considering his credentials.
