Gallagher had been to Madrid in anticipation of joining Atletico, only for the agreement to be abruptly halted, reportedly due to issues with Samu Omorodion's proposed move in the opposite direction. With his future uncertain, the midfielder returned to England and Gallagher is now "trying to find a solution".

Speaking to the media, Blues boss Maresca said: "Conor [Gallagher] is back. He is training apart. He is doing some medical tests and some training. He won't be involved in the game. At this moment, he is trying to find a solution with the club."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is said to be a big fan of Gallagher's and was looking to bring in the England star as Los Rojiblancos continue their development in the transfer window following an average 2023-24 season. The Liga side has already signed Julian Alvarez from Manchester City, while Robin Le Normand and Alexander Sorloth have also been brought in.
WHAT NEXT FOR GALLAGHER?
Maresca stated that although the 24-year-old is fit, Gallagher will not play in Chelsea's opening match of the 2024-25 Premier League season against Manchester City on Sunday, August 18. Indeed, it seems certain he'll leave Stamford Bridge before the summer transfer window closes.
