McTominay moved to Naples for the 2024-25 campaign in a £25 million ($33.6m) transfer, after years of fluctuating form and limited starts at Old Trafford. Since arriving in Italy, however, Antonio Conte has entrusted him with a defined position, which has brought out a new level in the 28-year-old. The midfielder has scored 11 league goals and provided four assists in 31 appearances, and is now on the verge of winning the Serie A title as Napoli enjoy a three-point lead at the top of the table over Inter.

Solskjaer, who managed McTominay during his stint as United head coach, spoke highly of the Scottish midfielder's abilities and expressed his shock over the Red Devils' decision to part ways with one of the hardest working players in their squad.
