Football Insider is reporting that Rangers made two loan offers to Sheffield United during the transfer window for Luke Freeman, one of which was on deadline day.
What’s the story?
The Gers were busy on the final day of the window, bringing in Ianis Hagi on loan from Belgian outfit Genk, as well as Florian Kamberi from Hibernian.

It now appears that they attempted to take Freeman to Ibrox as well. However, their deadline day attempt was turned down by the Blades, who wanted to keep him despite signing Sander Berge for a club-record fee.
Could have been the icing on the cake
Freeman has not had the best time of it at Sheffield United since making the move from QPR in the summer for £5m. He has made just three starts so far in the Premier League and has failed to get himself on the score-sheet or provide a single assist.
However, at his best, this is a player with plenty of creativity. In his last two Championship seasons, he scored 12 goals and provided 18 assists, averaging at least two key passes per match in each campaign. Albeit in the second tier of English football, he has proved he has what it takes to unlock a defence.

The arrival of Hagi in the final few hours of the window was already a coup. This season, he has three goals and four assists in 14 matches in the Jupiler Pro League, and impressed for Romania at the U21 European Championships last summer as he scored twice. The son of the iconic Gheorghe, he is clearly a talent, and so he should be able to push Rangers even further as we enter the final few months of the season.
The addition of Freeman, too, may have given Steven Gerrard’s side the extra edge they need. This season has the potential to be huge. They are fighting rivals Celtic for the right to be crowned champions of the Scottish Premiership, whilst they are still in the Europa League as well. Some extra creativity may have made all the difference. As it is, the Rangers boss must hope that Hagi provides it on his own.
In other news, Rangers fans are delighted with this new signing.
